Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Friday that Pakistan and China in the unanimous opinion that India should not be granted permanent membership of the Security Council because it would upset the balance of power in the region.

"We discussed the issue with China and both countries are unanimous in this regard," Qureshi said in answer to a question about China's position on the accession of India Security Council during his speech to the media at the airport Lahore. He said that China is a responsible state and is always used diplomatic language decent while responding to international issues. Pakistan, he added, was satisfied with China's position on joining the Indians. Expressing concern over India's move to become permanent members of the Security Council, the Foreign Minister said Pakistan had no objection to move the Indians for the sake of opposition, "but we have reasons for that." He added that this would negatively affect the balance of power in the region.

Regarding U.S. support for the candidacy of New Delhi for the permanent seat of the Security Council, he said, "We believe that any unilateral support, if it is not based on deep thinking will impact on peace and stability in the region. "

In his view, the opposition in Pakistan to move from India was in line with its position on the expansion and reforms in the world body. He told reporters that the expansion and reform of the Security Council was a lengthy and complex group comprising countries from different regions with different views on the issue.
